We Named Her Avery: Jen’s Story

When I close my eyes, I remember the day we found out we were pregnant. The days and weeks to come were filled with excitement, appointments, and announcements. At the time, my son Brayden was 13. Our family was going to grow to four. Number four was going to be a girl. We named her Avery.

The loss all happened so fast. I woke that morning and didn’t feel the usual kicks and movement of our little girl. As the day went on, nothing. I called Health Link, as it seemed wrong. The nurse explained, in the last few weeks of pregnancy, the baby will move around much less. But, to be sure, I could go to the hospital for a stress test.

Our girl was not okay. Her heart was not beating. My world shattered.
