It was just after Christmas 1992, about a week or so before my due date. I started to have contractions, so we went to the hospital. They did an ultrasound and there was no heartbeat. I was too far along to get an epidural, so I delivered him naturally. The cord was wrapped around MacKenzie’s neck when he was born.
My husband and I had a brief time alone with him, and then we invited family in. Everyone had a chance to hold him, and someone took pictures. I was very grateful for that opportunity to see him, hold him, show my family how beautiful and perfect he was, and to say good-bye.
