I didn’t know I was pregnant. I found out when I went into emergency for pain, thinking I had a bowel obstruction. Because I said I was bleeding, they got me in fairly fast. I thought I was experiencing major constipation and mentioned my stomach felt bloated for months.
Moments later, the doctor mentioned I was very pregnant, 40+ weeks, but he didn’t think my baby was alive anymore. I was shocked. They called Labour & Delivery to look at me and they couldn’t find a heartbeat. I had ruptured my uterus a few days prior at home, which was the cause of the amount of blood I was losing.
My baby was already crowning when I got to the hospital, so I delivered without any medication to help with the pain. I was in the hospital for five nights. Three of them were in Labour & Delivery with my baby boy. I said my final goodbyes on my last day on the unit, then was transferred to another unit that newborn babies weren’t in, so I was very thankful.
When I finally got to go home, I still needed to return to the same hospital every day to receive my IV treatment for 10 days after. I had a bad blood infection and a lot of stitches, so I had about two months of healing physically. Around three months postpartum, I got very bad anxiety and my OBGYN thinks I have PTSD. My son was my first time being pregnant and giving birth. I’m still working on trying to get back into society again.
